In the future, believing we are not energy will be the new flatearther paradigm. In a universe made of light and sound, matter is simply a representation. We know this because every time we zoom in, we find space filled by waves. The same foundation is found in everything that’s different.
As it is now understood, reality is mostly empty space. Meaning the atoms in our body appear as 0.000001% physical. Then what are we seeing?
If they say, energy and matter are equivalent. What does that mean?
I tried the flute when I was a kid. The instrument makes a magical sound but I had no clue that I needed to blow straight above and not into the mouthpiece. It was held. I pushed the buttons. Put it together and took it apart. But play music it did not.
Life is like music. With diverse rhythms. Rather than seeing the same singular noise, the range of amplitudes lets us taste differences in the way energy gets expressed. But we find ourselves hitting notes that make sound we don’t enjoy. We push keys without giving it air. And sometimes we just keep hitting a few notes in the same way hoping to hear different music. Not finding harmony, we might think something is wrong. But there is nothing wrong. And there’s nothing wrong with any of the notes. They exist.
Unlike a flute or a piano, we don’t need to learn to play us. Quite the opposite. To play is natural. We were playing as children and then forgot what it’s like. Mainly because we have adopted assumptions about ourselves through theoretical narratives that lean on measurements. A form of human accounting. So instead of playing and finding out what it’s like to dance to all the various sounds, our attention is occupied by notes that produce daily reports on how our existence is doing. We keep pushing ourselves to get it right, seriously. Leaving little space to play and see.
Along this path of purpose the same struggle appears. Not as some object but as a feeling. Hoping to hit the eight-ball we find ourselves running along the figure eight. Because measurements exist ad infinitum. Like pedaling a stationary bike believing it’s on the road to a sunny cafe on the pier.
These experiences are felt. For every word that we attach meaning to, we feel an energy. For desire sought, we seek an energy. In loss, we experience an energy. Waves represented by feelings that we process.
If the universe releases itself from matter, then it just is. With matter it still just is. But with near infinite existing representations in motion. To recognize yourself and all that surrounds you as forms of energy and not separate lego blocks is the corner that turns your life and quite possibly civilization. Blocks treated as separate things are chased after, thrown out, or kept. And some are seen as out of reach. Knowing it is energy, life gets handled differently. With flow and feeling. You tune yourself to it like you ride a wave. And so the music gets created through you with play and less head scratching.
